Regional Learning and Networking Days …

The New Zealand Boarding Schools’ Association is launching Regional Event Days where you can come along and hear from a guest speaker and network with fellow boarding staff in your region.

Registrations are now open for the following locations and dates:

TIMING: 10am – 1pm | COST: 50pp, lunch included.

Auckland:
Monday 06 November at Sacred Heart College
Speakers/Topics: A panel of speakers on leadership, development and coaching, overcoming challenges, building resilience & wellbeing. Chris Kerekere – Auckland Blues Rugby People & Capability Manager. Rob Woodley ONZM – GM Auckland Blues Rugby Charitable Trust (BCT). Fran Serrano – Senior Lecturer at Manakau Institute of Technology, Auckland

Palmerston North:
Wednesday 08 November at Palmerston North Boys’ High School
Speaker/Topic: We’ll hear from David Barwick on Careers Education within Boarding and the NZ Police on Social Media, its pitfalls and what can be done if someone is on the wrong side of social media use. We’ll discuss the issues we are facing in boarding and ways to overcome these.

Hawkes Bay: *REVISED DATE*
Thursday 16 November at Woodford House School
Speaker/Topic: Dr Lee Knight (PhD, DipClPs) – Registered Clinical Psychologist speaking on Eating Disorders with the aim to support boarding schools to identify and enhance their roles in the prevention, identification and response to eating disorders within their student community.

Hamilton:
Tuesday 21 November at Hamilton Boys’ High School
Speaker/Topic: Ms Jess Weller, Guidance Counsellor, Hamilton BHS speaking on Catering for the wellbeing of our boarders – including managing grief and loss, traumatic Incidents, hysteria and mis-information when social media is involved, friendship/family breakdowns and more.

Dunedin:
Wednesday 22 November at John McGlashan College
Speaker/Topic: We will hear from ex boarding students on the skills they wish they were taught (or were taught) that has helped them transition from school/boarding into their chosen career or further studies.

Christchurch:
Monday 27 November at Adams House – Christchurch Boys’ High School
Speaker/Topic: Dr Tessa Opie from inyourskin® speaking on Youth Sexual Consent Culture and the Problem with Current Consent Education.
